The next day, we&#8217;d help grandma make another batch. I&#8217;ve since discovered that most people call these Preacher Cookies. Apparently they were given that name because they could be made and ready in short order if the preacher came callin&#8217; to your house. Whatever you call them, they are delicious.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><em><strong>Boiled Cookies<\/strong><\/em><\/h4>\n<figure id=\"attachment_22\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-22\" style=\"width: 195px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beattiefamily.net\/fblog\/?attachment_id=22\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-22\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-22\" title=\"boiled cookies, aka preacher cookies\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.beattiefamily.net\/fblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/boiled_cookies.jpg\" alt=\"boiled cookies\" width=\"195\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-22\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/cuttingboard\/ \/ CC BY-NC-ND 2.0<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">2 cups sugar<br \/>\n1\/2 cup milk<br \/>\n1\/2 cup butter<br \/>\n1-4 Tbsp. cocoa powder<br \/>\n2-1\/2 to 3-1\/2 cups uncooked oats<br \/>\n1\/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)<br \/>\n2 tsp. vanilla<br \/>\n1\/2 cup peanut butter<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Measure all ingredients first, as this recipe moves quickly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Cook sugar, milk, butter and cocoa powder in a large saucepan over moderate heat. Bring to a full boil for 1-2 minutes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Remove from heat and add remaining ingredients. Stir until well blended.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Drop by teaspoonfuls on wax paper or aluminum foil and allow to cool.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">*<em>Note<\/em>: For ranges of ingredients\/times above, grandma used the lower numbers, but I prefer more oats and cocoa and I get better results by letting the cocoa mixture boil for 2 minutes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">*<em>Note<\/em>: If the cookies do not harden, it may be too humid. Your options at that point are to freeze the cookies on a tray (and then store them in a bag in the freezer). They won&#8217;t be too hard to bite.
